Keratosis Pilaris
What is keratosis pilaris?
Keratosis pilaris is condition that develops because of a similar
process that occurs with acne; mainly cells that clump together in
terminal hair follicles. It may be found on the upper arms and
sometimes on the thighs, cheeks, or scalp. It appears as
sandpaper-like grainy bumps and, in some cases, as large
impactions, becoming inflamed and tender. It is believed that
keratosis pilaris is frequently accompanied by acne. Therefore,
keratosis pilaris responds well to keratolytic agents, such as
glycolic or salicylic acid, much in the same way as does acne.
