What is Cellulite?
Cellulite results from adipose (fat) tissue in the uppermost layers of the skin projecting into the dermis and causing bumps, “dimples” and pitting. With age, collagen and elastin in the skin declines, revealing more fluids and fat cells below the surface of the skin. What causes cellulite?
- Poor blood circulation due to stress, a lack of exercise and other factors.
- Poor lymphatic flow, possibly due to lack of adequate water intake.
- Changes in estrogen and progesterone levels dictate how much fat your body stores or releases.
- Genetic factors.
- The elimination and nutrition process for underlying tissues declines as the tone of the skin declines with age.
- Poor nutrition due to eating food containing an overabundance of toxins and sugar; and drinking excessive amounts of alcohol and caffeine.
